COPPELIA
Anderson Young Ballet Theatre is proud to bring to the stage Coppélia, one of the world’s most beloved comic ballets. Filled with whimsy, romance, and delightful humor, Coppélia tells the enchanting tale of a mysterious inventor, his beautiful mechanical doll, and the curious villagers who become entangled in his schemes.
The story follows Swanilda, a spirited young woman who grows suspicious when her fiancé, Franz, becomes infatuated with a girl he sees reading on a balcony—unaware that she is really Coppélia, a life-sized doll created by the eccentric Dr. Coppélius. Determined to uncover the truth, Swanilda sneaks into the inventor’s workshop, where chaos, laughter, and clever disguises ensue. In the end, love and joy prevail as Swanilda and Franz find their happily-ever-after in a jubilant village celebration.
AYBT’s production showcases the bright character dances, lively ensembles, and enchanting choreography that have made Coppélia a timeless favorite. With its playful energy, vivid storytelling, and Tchaikovsky-inspired score, this ballet is a perfect introduction to the art form for audiences of all ages. Join Anderson Young Ballet Theatre for an unforgettable performance that will leave you smiling long after the curtain falls.
This is the third presentation of AYBT’s Alice in Wonderland (2017 and 2020). Tickets go on sale September 1.
